作为基督徒，我们知道耶稣是道路、真理和生命。但这句话对我们大多数人来说已经没有什么意义了。它只是我们在《圣经》中听到或读到的东西。对我们大多数人来说，作为基督徒的本质就是做一个认罪得救的祷告，周日去教堂，有空时做祷告，交十一税，读圣经，参加团契，偶尔参加宣教。这就是基督徒认为的基督徒的本质。这却与事实相去甚远。请记住，耶稣就是道路。他是真理。他是生命。
教会不是生命，圣经不是生命，团契本身也不是生命。例如，基督徒认为《圣经》是完美无误的上帝的道。他们以为《圣经》是基督信仰的根基、核心。但他们忘记了一个事实，即《圣经》的存在时间只占基督信仰存在时长的四分之一。从耶稣死在十字架上并复活至今，《圣经》与基督徒相伴的时间仅占四分之一。但四分之三的基督徒甚至都没有见过《圣经》。因此，当四分之三的主内弟兄姐妹都没有机会拥有一本《圣经》时，你怎么能说《圣经》是基督信仰的精髓呢？作为基督徒，耶稣才是我们需要认识的那一位。我们当然应该阅读《圣经》，因为我们现在已经有了《圣经》。我们应该去了解马太福音、马可福音、路加福音和约翰福音。但我们需要知道我们的救恩和生命的本质，是耶稣基督。他就是道路、真理和生命。你认识耶稣基督吗，或者你只是从《圣经》、教会朋友和牧师那里知道一些关于他的事情？你真的拥有与耶稣同行的真正生命吗？还是你只是试图用生命实践一些看似宗教的东西好让自己感觉良好，或拥有基督徒朋友，或因为你正在研究《圣经》自以为知道很多？这些东西不会让你得着生命。这些只能带给你知识，让你自高自大，成为宗教人士。
总而言之，如果你想要永生，就必须与耶稣基督建立真正的关系。
We know as Christians that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. But that saying to most of us does not register as meaning much of anything anymore. It's just something we've heard or read in the Bible. And the essence of being a Christian to most of us means saying a prayer of salvation, going to church on Sunday, saying prayers when you can, tithing, reading your Bible, and being in fellowship, and occasionally going on mission trips. And this is what Christians think is the essence of being a Christian. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Remember that Jesus is the way. He's the truth. He is the life.
It's not church is the life, or Bible is the life, or fellowship itself is the life. For example, Christians think that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. They imagine the Bible to be the root, the core, of their Christianity. But they forget the fact that the Bible has only existed for about a quarter of Christianity. From the time that Jesus died on the cross and resurrected up until the present time, the Bible has only been with Christians for about one quarter of that time. But three-quarters of Christians have not even experienced the Bible. So how can you say that the Bible is the very essence of Christianity when three-quarters of your fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord have not had the opportunity to even have a Bible? Jesus is who we need to know as Christians. Of course we should read the Bible because we now have it. We should know the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. But we need to know the very essence of our salvation and life which is in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Do you know Jesus Christ or do you just know things about Him from the Bible, from your friends at church, from the pastor? Do you really have genuine life with Jesus or are you just trying to implement things that seem religious in your life to feel good about yourself, to have Christian friends, to feel like you know a lot because you are researching the Bible? Those things don't give you life. They give you knowledge, they puff you up, they give you religion.
But at the end of the day, if you want eternal life, you need to have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
